Music Video Analysis
Grime music videos and lyrics often illustrate the hardships of living in the deprived areas and the hidden depths of London. This mainly attracts an audience of a similar lifestyle or upbringing, who commonly listen to Grime because the lyrics are relatable. The conventions of Grime include the clothing; which is most often sportswear and branded labels such as Stone Island. This is a popular yet arguably expensive brand in the UK, also made popular by Canadian artist, Drake.
Grime music videos are usually shot with low-key and dark lighting, in order to clearly portray the severity of the topics discussed within Grime lyrics. As well as this, the video is generally filmed on an estate, on the streets or a location with meaning to the artist.
"The music originated and will always remain in the streets" - JME
The mise-en-scene within a Grime music video is also significant due to the fact that it helps to add to the authenticity of the music. For example, graffiti is often featured in the background of the videos, as it is most commonly seen in the urban streets of London and is associated with youth.
Youths often partake in petty crimes such as graffitiing to rebel from society's norms and also mark their territory, to an extent, because place of upbringing is incredibly significant to most Londoners.

DPS Evaluation
My DPS' main focus is the image and does follow some of the typical conventions of a double page spread; such as a pull text, main body of text, the date and page number. On the other hand, the image does slightly bleed into the gutter, which does not follow the conventions of a double page spread, however this adds to my house style; which can be described as somewhat unnatural, simplistic, yet modern and cultivated. The title is in a graffiti font, which corresponds with the Grime genre as they are often associated together. The pull quote also includes urban slang which caters towards the target audience; youth in London.
I then adapted my DPS to have the magazine website and other social media links to follow the conventions of double page spreads and in order for the aesthetics to avoid resembling the characteristics of a poster.

Flat plan and DPS first draft comparison

My flat plan shows that there would be a pull quote in between the main body of text in a circle button, and my draft does include a pull quote between text, however it is in a different format. As well as this, my main image was positioned on the right side of the page on the flat plan, but on the draft it is on the left, which space left at the bottom and the title is still positioned at the top left hand corner.
DPS First draft
For my double page spread draft, I used the software available on Photoshop. The photo is from a low angle and the background depicts the socio-economic situation of the typical pursuit of Grime artists. The pull quote has a black background, and this was developed through highlighting the text whilst writing, screenshotting and then uploading the image of the highlighted text. The text is on a slant to coincide with the angle of the building.

DPS Editorial Draft
East London's finest reclaims top of the Grime scene after months of being M.I.A. The female due, originating from the heart of East London's music central at the moment, Custom House, uncovered the true picture of Grime in their interview.
Breaking from norms, the female duo released 2 new singles on music streaming app Soundcloud a week ago.
They revealed to us that although socio-economic factors can dramatically affect lifestyle, and the fact that deprived areas in London are ridden with growing issues such as gang violence, it is still possible to make a breakthrough.
They have taught us that there is more to Grime than what it seems, or in fact how it is presented in the media.
